What’s New With What Matters?

When I started our What Matters blog during COVID in April 2021, it was on the heels of two important experiences I had just had: rebranding my real estate practice and launching our educational campaign, A Kinder World of Commerce.  Needless to say, I was feeling inspired, and there was so much I wanted to share. The challenge was how to do this in an organized and sensible way that made it easy for our readers to follow along.

The first thing I did was set a vision for What Matters: to inspire and build connection around shared stories and topics that matter to us. As I reflected on this, I found myself gravitating beyond real estate to a few of my closely held core values: vision, community, and kindness. These then became the four pillars of our “What Matters” monthly newsletter: Vision Matters, Real Estate Matters, Community Matters and Kindness Matters.

The most obvious pillar, Real Estate Matters, includes monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual statistical reviews to help our readers track changes in our market.

The Community Matters pillar is the platform we use to feature A Kinder World of Commerce, an educational campaign co-created with my dear friend, partner, and brilliant businesswoman, Claudia Rucker.  Our vision is a kinder and socially responsible world of commerce in which businesses are a driving force for good.  Our mission is to educate our community about the importance of shopping not just locally but socially responsibly by interviewing business owners/CEOs of value-based and purpose-driven local businesses. It has been and continues to be an incredibly inspiring endeavor. Each month, meeting these business owners bolsters my faith in the goodness of humanity and the potential within us to do good and create lasting change.

Vision Matters was birthed during the rebranding process where I found myself deeply connected to the idea that everything starts with a vision. And when a vision is vividly described and supported by an intentional plan it has the potential to end with a legacy; hence, Start with Vision and Legacy. Each month I share about the power of creating or implementing a vision, and we look at the marvelous ways in which creating a vision is imperative for any and all endeavors: from starting or scaling a business in a sustainable way; reaching optimal physical, mental and/or spiritual health and well-being; developing supportive, loving friendships and other key relationships to creating fun and/or restorative vacations and holidays.

Lastly, Kindness Matters offers a dose of kindness each month. In the midst of so much doom and gloom, it’s important to remember that there is also much good happening both in our own backyard as well as in faraway places. There’s nothing like a shot of kindness to realign our internal GPS and reconnect us with the innate goodness that co-exists with so much human suffering, tragedy and unconscionable human behavior.  Shining the light on what’s working in our lives and in the world can be an antidote to a moment of despair or hopelessness.

“Continue to be who and how you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness.” – Maya Angelou

With its new and easier-to-read format, we hope that our What Matters blog inspires you to hold to your life vision and mission because, after all is said and done, YOU matter!
